At Thursday's Geeked Week presentation, Netflix unveiled an upcoming game based on Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon film series, called Blood Line: A Rebel Moon Game. The game is slated to be released sometime in 2025 exclusively on Netflix Games, and you can sign up to join the beta now.
Super Evil Megacorp, the team behind the award-winning game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate, developed this co-op action game you can play with friends or on your own. Netflix said in a news conference that Super Evil Megacorp worked with Snyder and his production company, The Stone Quarry, to develop the game.
"Megacorp was granted full access to reference materials and information about the lore of the larger Rebel Moon universe," Matthew Denomme, a Netflix Games producer, said in the news conference. "They've also been given the blessing to develop an original story for the game that, while standalone and not requiring you to have seen the films, fits into the canon."
The game takes place on the planet Krypt, where you start a small rebellion against the ruthless Motherworld. As you progress through the game, you bring more of the planet into the fight.
The game is set in the Rebel Moon universe and draws on the lore of the film series, but many of the characters in the game are only mentioned in passing -- if at all -- in the film series. For fans of the films, there is a playable Jimmy -- a sentient machine from the films -- in the game.
There are four different classes of characters you and your friends can play as.
First, there's the Bannerguard, which is your tank class that can take and deal a lot of damage. Then there's the Forsaken -- the assassin class -- who are agile and can debuff enemies. Next is the Kindred, which is your sniper class that takes out enemies from a distance and sets traps. Finally, there's the Evoker, which is your support class that can heal and deal elemental damage.
The game also has RPG elements, so you'll be able to upgrade your character's abilities and weapons as you complete more missions and gain additional resources. You'll unlock different artifacts and gain strength as you progress. There are also cosmetic items that can be found and applied to your character to make your character uniquely yours.
The development team said at the news conference that more updates and upgrades will be added to the game in the future. Since the game is included as part of a Netflix subscription, you won't have to pay any additional fees for these updates.
There's no confirmed release date, but Netflix said subscribers should be able to play this game in 2025.
