Blink's new module extends your Outdoor 4 camera's range and local storage

The Blink Outdoor 4 is already a great security camera, able to work almost anywhere, thanks to the AA lithium batteries powering it. The company lets you choose a monthly cloud storage subscription or buy a Sync Module for local storage. Now Blink is launching a new Sync Module XR with a larger range, giving you even more flexibility in choosing where to put your Blink Outdoor 4 camera.

The Blink Sync Module XR offers coverage for up to 250 feet in XR mode and 400 feet in XR+ mode. You can place the Blink Outdoor 4 camera outside your back door, shed, or the woods, and your Sync Module XR safely inside your home, as long as they're within 400 feet of each other.

"We're always looking for ways to make it easier for our customers to build a comprehensive home security system," said Jonathan Cohn, head of product at Blink. "With Blink Sync Module XR, we're addressing one of the biggest pain points of outdoor cameras -- limited Wi-Fi range that restricts where customers can install them. Now Blink Outdoor 4 customers can monitor their property with reliable connectivity over longer distances."

The older Blink Sync Module is a staple in my kitchen. It sits by the window, loyally connected to the Blink Outdoor 4 with a Floodlight Mount in my backyard. The USB flash drive connected to it offers local storage for no monthly fees, but I have to keep the module by that window so that it stays connected to the camera.

The new Sync Module XR would fix this issue and the eyesore that is the USB flash drive, since the new module has a MicroSD card slot to add local storage.

The extended range feature uses Blink's proprietary radio instead of Wi-Fi alone, so it can maintain a connection with the Outdoor 4 camera even if the latter is outside the Wi-Fi range.

The Sync Module XR costs $60, but for a limited time, you can get a free Blink Outdoor 4 camera with each purchase.
