Finally,
an
extension
of
a
beloved
horror
movie
franchise
that
feels
like
it’s
bringing
something
new
to
the
table.
While
The
First
Omen
looks
to
have
some
familiar
tropes—imperiled
nuns,
supernatural
pregnancies,
that
all-important
mark
of
the
beast—it
also
looks
legitimately
terrifying.
Maybe
the
The
Omen
didn’t
need
a
prequel,
but
we’re
extremely
excited
to
be
getting
one
that
looks
as
promising
as
this.
The First Omen | Official Trailer | 20th Century Studios
“It’s all for you!” are four words to make any fan of the original Omen shiver, and it looks like The First Omen is going to put its own spin on that whole “Oh god what is happening on that balcony?” moment. As Ralph Ineson’s character explains, the Antichrist doesn’t just appear out of nowhere; there are specific things that must happen before little Damien bursts into the world and gets body-swapped with the son of a certain American ambassador. Specific evil things.
Here’s the official description of The First Omen: “When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.” Again, that story will be fairly familiar for horror fans, but we’re excited to see how director Arkasha Stevenson (Legion, Channel Zero) and a cast that includes not just Ineson, but Nell Tiger Free (Servant), Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman), and Bill Nighy (Living). It hits theaters April 5.
