It’s
time
to
go
back
to
the
grid.
Finally.
Jared
Leto
took
to
his
social
media
on
Thursday
to
reveal
our
first
look
at
the
third
Tron
film,
Tron:
Ares,
along
with
a
release
window
of
2025.
The image reveals a red-suited character with a triangle-shaped data disc, both radical departures from the previous two films. Plus, while “Tron: Ares” was long the title people were using for the film, it had not yet become official. Now it is. Here’s the image and teaser...
So, from this image it seems this red character is Ares, Ares is a program, and Jared Leto is playing Ares. But why is this Grid red? What’s up with the new shaped data disc? And how do co-stars like Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, Greta Lee, Gillian Anderson, and Evan Peters fit in? We don’t yet know.
Tron: Ares is directed by Joachim Rønning, who revealed the start of production a few weeks back. “I’m excited to be part of the Tron franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world,” he said in a press release. “Tron: Ares builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology, and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid.”
The press release also revealed our first tease of the story: “Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with AI beings.”
Sounds
like
the
promise
of
Tron:
Legacy,
of
digital
beings
going
into
the
real
world,
will
finally
be
paying
off.
We
cannot
wait.
Now
to
go
put
on
some
Daft
Punk.
