I'm Holding On to Disney Plus, Hulu and Netflix in November, but Skipping These Services

November turns the corner on fall content with the arrival of new holiday titles, more sports, feature films and fresh originals on streaming services. When I say feature films, I mean you can stream Deadpool & Wolverine and Twisters this month. Will that be enough to lock you in for Disney Plus and Peacock subscriptions? I can't say, but Hallmark fans (and NFL fans) may find joy in watching Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story when it drops this season. 

On that note, Netflix is streaming its big live event on Nov. 15: Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul's boxing match. Viewers will also get more Cobra Kai, Arcane, Outer Banks and a new animated movie, Spellbound. Max is debuting Dune: Prophecy and fall anime is still very entertaining, too. Nearly every streamer is offering holiday-themed content, but things can get pricey when you have budgeting and gifting priorities this time of year. 

That's why I'd like to share one strategy for keeping streaming TV costs down: Churn like ice cream, aka rotate.  

It's pretty simple. You subscribe for a time, cancel, switch to another service and then resubscribe, keeping your favorites in a rotation. Rotating streaming services can mix things up and save money when Netflix, Disney Plus, Max and others don't have the content you want to watch at a given time. Just remember to shut off auto-renewal for your monthly subscriptions. This method may not fly if you're sharing your streaming accounts, but if you can work it out, try it. 

Here are my suggestions for which services to cancel or keep in November, based on new shows, live events and movies (I didn't consider live TV streaming services) coming to each platform. Your tastes may be different, but if nothing else, I urge you to at least consider the concept of rotating for savings. Doing it is easier than you might think.

Hulu: I'm sticking with Hulu for anime episodes of Dan Da Dan and Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, Part 3. This is also the place to stream Season 6 of What We Do in the Shadows, Abbott Elementary and these new additions:

Disney Plus: Deadpool & Wolverine is the main reason to have the service this month. The film arrives Nov. 12, and you can stream it, pause it and rewind it as many times as you want. You can also watch the new family-friendly flick, An Almost Christmas Story. If you want to cancel (like me) after watching these movies, that can help you save a few dollars.

Peacock: You can watch election night coverage on Nov. 5 and continue to stream football, Big Ten basketball and soccer. You'll have to wait until Dec. 1 to stream the Kansas City Chiefs-themed movie Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story. Here's a look at new titles coming to Peacock:

The Day of the Jackal (Nov. 14), featuring Eddie Redmayne as the Jackal, a hit man being tracked by a British intelligence officer played by Lashana Lynch. 
Twisters (Nov. 15) Making Manson (Nov. 19) Based On A True Story, Season 2 (Nov. 21)

Max: The Penguin season finale airs Nov. 10, but Dune Prophecy premieres Nov. 17 with the first of six episodes. The Sex Lives of College Girls returns Nov. 21 with Season 3. If you want to watch NBA games, B/R Sports is airing live match-ups this month. However, if these releases don't interest you, I suggest skipping Max in November.

Prime Video: Like a Dragon: Yakuza will continue through November, but the month also brings Cross to your TV screen on Nov. 14. The new crime drama stars Aldis Hodge as Alex Cross in the latest TV adaptation of James Patterson's book character. Other noteworthy new drops include the anime Look Back (Nov. 7) from Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto, the movie My Old Ass (Nov. 7), featuring Maisy Stella and Aubrey Plaza, and Cruel Intentions, Season 1, on Nov. 21.

Starz: Outlander fans, the show is back with Season 7, Part 2, on Nov. 22. Starz is $11 a month now, so I advise you to keep it only if you want to watch Outlander episodes each week.

Maybe pause these and wait to binge

Apple TV Plus: November is a great time to have Apple TV Plus if you're a fan of Shrinking, Bad Sisters (Nov. 13) or Silo, but these shows can be binged later. Silo Season 2 premieres Nov. 15 and will air into January. 

Paramount Plus: Taylor Sheridan's new show Landman may make Paramount Plus appealing when it debuts on Nov. 17. Tulsa King wraps Nov. 17 and you can watch Star Trek: Lower Decks and Lioness. Don't cancel this service if you're watching these shows or NFL games.

Silo Season 2 will be completely binge-able in January if you want to wait.

Being patient saves money on streaming

Rotating wisely requires you to wait things out until most or all of the episodes of your favorite series are available on a platform, especially if you don't get FOMO. That way, rather than paying for a service for several months to cover the six-to-10-week run of a show, you can catch up on everything by subscribing for one month and then repeating the cycle. This works well if you don't mind being a binge-watcher. 

For example, fans can binge The Penguin on Max or Tulsa King on Paramount Plus this month. If you wait until January, series such as Landman, Outlander and Silo will have all episodes available to stream, letting you pay for one month of a platform vs. several months. Similarly, some of you may want to skip Disney Plus for November and get it in December to watch Deadpool 3, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and the Inside Out spinoff, Dream Productions. Start watching a series a month or so later in the season or wait to binge it all in later months. 

Think about how much you're paying per month for each streaming service you have, and do the math. Netflix is $7 to $23 (plus extra member fees) and Paramount Plus starts at $8. Apple TV Plus is $10. Disney Plus is anywhere from $10 to $27, depending on bundles. Max costs $10 to $21, Hulu is $10 a month, Starz runs $11 now and Peacock has a base rate of $8 monthly. Should you decide to rotate, set a calendar reminder to alert you when it's time to resubscribe or cancel.
