Apple May Stop Vision Pro Production as Components Pile Up

Apple could be ending production of its high-priced Vision Pro mixed-reality headset by the end of the year, but that doesn't mean the company is giving up on the product line. According to MacRumors and The Information, Apple has produced enough components to last through next year and is seeing low demand for the $3,500 product.

Apple was reportedly pausing development of a Vision Pro 2 to focus on a dramatically lower-priced version of the concept, which could be powered by a user's iPhone. But Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter suggests the product is still in the pipeline and could debut by late next year or early 2026. Apple is also working on smart glasses that would rival Meta's in-development Ray-Bans, but that product may not be available until as late as 2027.

Reviews of the Vision Pro have been positive and Apple has created space in its Apple Stores to demo the device to the public, but those retail spaces appear to be consolidating. The steep price has likely kept demand low and the company has asserted that this first version is aimed at early adopters, not the mass market. Amid this, Apple is opening up sales of the Vision Pro in South Korea and the United Arab Emirates this month.

Apple didn't immediately respond to request for comment.
