Android Automotive OS (AAOS), a special version of Android for cars, is receiving an update that introduces several new features. Version 24Q3 affects many different aspects of the system, but we'll cover the most impactful areas.

New options are being added to a vehicle's sound system to improve the overall experience. You'll have the option to choose a specific audio configuration for "dynamic output devices". This feature extends beyond smartphones, as Google gives users the ability to connect Bluetooth headphones to AAOS for the first time.
The company states you can connect by going to the Audio Settings menu and selecting Audio Output Device. Keep in mind that "only one media or audio stream can be active over Bluetooth at a time".
Of course, we don't recommend wearing headphones while driving. This feature appears meant for passengers who want entertainment while on the road.
Next, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have the option to support different "crossover fade configurations" for when songs change as well as "define minimum and maximum volume levels". Now, the audio won't be too quiet or loud when you turn on the speakers.

Android Automotive 24Q3 also adds "Wi-Fi hotspot persistence", letting you keep a vehicle's mobile hotspot in between drives. This setup is better than re-establishing the connection when you enter your car.
Google isn't stopping there, as the company is implementing changes to IVI (in-vehicle infotainment) screens. The dock will allow users to pin their favorite apps to the system's user interface.
An "ambient view" is being added, too. Judging from the description, this view operates similarly to Ambient Mode on Android, which turns a smartphone into a digital photo frame of sorts. The media displayed on an IVI touchscreen depends on the OEM.

The other new features probably wouldn't be interesting to the average user. The features are mostly developer tools. It's unclear when Version 24Q3 will roll out, although we did reach out to Google for more information.
